Sunlight
Through the clouds
Ice bridges the stream
Beneath snow shrouds
I'll cross
To make my way
To thickets on the far bank

I start across
And leave soft tracks
I cannot see
Past the snow to the cracks
Now comes a rush
And the shock chills my blood
Down crashing through
Immersed in the flood |

Now I'm trying to call out
Gulping air in a gasp (drawn under)
Try desperately I'm reaching up
But I can't get a grasp (drawn under)
See the place I fell the light streams in
The current pulls me past
Push against the ice
But it will hold fast{E4 F4 E4 G4

--------------------------------------
Our hero falls through ice and then is carried by
the current. He has to make a split second decision to try to
swim back to the opening, try to swim back fighting the current to
come back up through the opening he fell through, or to drop down
and push up against the ice to make a new hole. Realizes no
way he would have the power to break through just pushing from the
deep since it took all his weight to break the ice in the first
place. This gives him a new idea. or swim underwater toward
shore to try to use leverage off the ground to break through the
ice. He decides to try that. He gets to shore and pushes
up against the ice with all his might, but cannot break through.
Then he sees a crack form and breaks through. He then goes on
gratefully to return home and get on with his life. Ends with
him realizing that he's not getting on with his life after all, he's
staring up through the ice at sunlight and thinks how beautiful it
is and then dies - Ambrose Bierce, Occurrence At Owl Creek bridge
style.
